Frequently Asked Questions

- What is Legacy Art Management?
  • I started Legacy Art Management because I noticed a huge gap in the art world. Most artists eventually reach a point where they need a professional assistant or a business manager, but they aren't ready to commit to a scheduled hire or even find someone locally with the expertise. I saw that this kind of high-level support was missing for independent artists. So, I decided to become that 'missing niche.' I provide the archival precision and business structure usually found in big galleries, giving you the professional framework you need so you can actually stay focused on making your art.

- Why should I work with Legacy Art Management?
  • Because I understand the business of art from every angle—as a printmaker, an archivist, a logistics and art handler specialist, and a former gallery director. I bring thirty years of experience to the table, but I also bring something most artists find daunting: technical expertise. Whether it’s building a professional website or implementing digital inventory systems, I am technically inclined in a way that allows me to bridge the gap between your studio and the digital market. I don’t just offer advice; I provide the hands-on logistical expertise and 'gallerist’s eye' needed to structure your business and secure your legacy. All to free up your time to focus on the most important element: Your Art.

- What can I expect with our consulting sessions?
  • I want YOU to create the consulting session. Prior to scheduling, it's helpful for both of us for you to complete the Artist Questionnaire. Additionally, I encourage you to write down lots of questions. The more prepared you are, the more comprehensive our sessions will be. But don't worry, I will have plenty of questions for you that you may not have thought about.

- I already have a website and social media. Isn't that enough for my online presence?
  • Having a website and social media is a start, but a true digital presence is about how those tools work together to turn a casual follower into a collector. It’s the difference between just posting content and having an optimized, user-friendly site that actually builds interest and your contact list. I help you create a cohesive strategy so your online world consistently captures new leads and supports your career—instead of just adding to your to-do list.

- Will you sell my work?
  • Legacy Art Management is a consulting firm, not a gallery; therefore, I do not represent artists or sell work directly. Instead, I provide the strategic support you need to develop and manage your own sales opportunities—including online exhibitions, pop-up events, and private shows. My goal is to help you refine your professional approach so you can confidently manage your own sales or successfully secure a gallery partnership that is the right fit for you.

- Do you provide a list of gallery contacts or direct introductions for your clients?
  • My mission is to empower you with the strategy, professional positioning, and tools needed to approach the market yourself. While I don’t provide a 'rolodex' of industry contacts, I do use my experience as a gallerist to help you identify which galleries are the best fit for your work. I am a firm believer that the most sustainable relationships are built on the artist’s own merit and professional presentation.

However, my goal is always your success. Should our work bring your portfolio to a high level of market readiness where a specific collector or gallery feels like a perfect, organic fit, I am open to brokering those introductions on a case-by-case basis. My primary role is to teach you how to build your own reputation and navigate these high-level partnerships with confidence.

- Can you help me build and manage a website?
  • Yes. I specialize in designing sites that function as a professional storefront, working across platforms like Weebly, Squarespace, and Shopify, or Carrd for simpler needs. However, for those ready to take their business to the next level, I strongly encourage using art-focused systems like Artcloud. While generic platforms often treat your work like a mass-produced product, an art-focused system treats it like a work of art—integrating your inventory, sales, and client management into a seamless framework that respects the unique nature of your career.

- Why Artcloud? How does it compare to other platforms out there?
  • It’s helpful to view your infrastructure as a professional investment rather than just an expense. For many artists, the annual cost of a high-level system like Artcloud is roughly equivalent to the 50% commission on just one mid-sized painting—the same amount you’d give to a gallery for a single sale. By choosing a system specifically built for art businesses, you are reinvesting that 'commission' back into your own business. You aren't just paying for a website; you're paying for the specialized inventory and client management tools that allow you to grow your reputation and manage your legacy independently.

PS - I am not affiliated with nor compensated by Artcloud. This is simply my professional perspective based on over a decade of using their system, along with using numerous other systems.

- Will you do my social media for me?
  • Social media is an essential part of marketing your work, but it shouldn't take over your life in the studio. While I don’t manage accounts or handle daily posting, I do help you build a strategic content workflow. I teach you how to align your social media with your business goals and create a system for posting consistently and efficiently. My goal is to turn social media into a high-functioning tool for your business rather than a 'necessary evil' that drains your creative energy.

- I'm not sure I'm good enough to be in a gallery. Will you critique my work?
  • While I don’t provide technical art instruction, I do provide a professional assessment of your work’s market readiness. Drawing on my experience as a gallery director, I evaluate your portfolio through the lens of what galleries, collectors, and curators expect to see in a professional setting. This isn't about judging your creativity; it’s about analyzing whether your current body of work meets the specific industry standards—consistency, presentation, and technical finish—required to compete in a high-end market. If there are gaps in your professional positioning, I’ll help you identify them so you can focus your growth in the right direction.

- Why is accountability such a big part of your consulting?
  • An artist’s studio is where you escape to focus on the creative process. But over time, that sanctuary can start to feel like an isolation chamber, and the loneliness itself becomes a distraction from the art. It’s hard to maintain momentum when you’re stuck on a "studio island" with no one to check in with.

Other times, you can’t even make it to the studio because life—family, errands, and even our devices—constantly steals your focus. It’s important to have a resource to break through those distractions and ensure you’re doing what needs to be done. I act as a consistent professional touchstone to help you navigate the daily shuffle and meet the creative goals you’ve set for yourself.
